Frequently Asked Questions

What happens at my first visit?

On your initial visit we will complete a holistic consultation form together which takes approximately 15 minutes and is totally free and kept confidential in accordance with the Data Protection Act. This form covers questions about you, your health and lifestyle, any medication or medical treatment and your reasons for visiting me. We will discuss the best treatment for you based on your answers and will briefly describe the treatment to follow. You will be left in private to undress (if necessary) and the treatment will commence. Afterwards you will have chance to rest and get ready in your own time and we will have a glass of water and discuss the treatment. It is really important for me to have feedback from you as it is this that forms the basis for your next visit, although you will never be put under any pressure to book another appointment.

What is Hot Stone Massage Therapy?

Hot Stone Massage dates back to over 3000 years ago in acient India and Chine, and more recently to the North American Indians living in southwest states. More recently it is thriving today in many healing centres and spas throughout North America, Europe, and is catching on fast in other parts of the world.

Hot stone massage combines the benefits of hydrotherapy and thermalism with the strokes of massage using stones to create a deep, relaxing and healing treatment. The heat of the stones warms the skin, which allows for the absorption of moisturising and therapeutic oils, whilst simultaneously preparing the musculature of the body so the therapist can work into deeper muscle layers.

Benefits of thermotherapy include: increased local circulation, improved blood flow to surrounding tissues, and greater ability to transport toxins and waste products from the area.

During your hot stone massage you will be relaxed by the use of hot stones in therapists hands as well as placed underneath and upon the body. Hot stone massage is different to Swedish massage in that maintaining continuous contact with the body is impossible as the hot stones being continuously used need to be swapped out with new stones from the heater to maintain temperature continuity. No two massages are ever exactly the same, however each is a deeply relaxing and soothing experience.

Do I have to take my top off for an Indian Head Massage?

I think that its is better without, as I can use oil and the treatment is lovely and relaxing. However I am also trained in doing the massage through clothes and this makes it perfect for in work time, it can even be done seated at your desk or in a quiet office.

What does ‘treatment time’ mean

The times quoted are approximate but would never be less, and are usually more. The treatment time is from the start of the treatment to the end. Undressing, consultation, feedback and rest times are not included in this estimate. Please allow extra time for your appointment.

How can I pay?

Sorry I don’t have the facility to accept credit cards at the treatment room, so its cash or personal cheque only please. However you can pay in advance via paypal payment to pritchard123@ntlworld.com.
